Men of the Lagos Police Command have arrested an owner after his three dogs allegedly mauled a security guard to death at Pinnock Estate in the Lekki area of Lagos.
The tragic incident, which took place on Monday night, has generated widespread reactions on social media, raising serious questions about safety and animal control in residential estates.
A video shared by an X user, @Olamide, captured the scene, showing the lifeless body of the security guard surrounded by the three dogs, who reportedly escaped due to improper confinement.
In a post accompanying the video, the user wrote, “Pinnock Estate last night: A resident didn’t properly lock in his dogs, dogs escaped and mauled an Estate Security man to death.”
Following the incident, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the dog owner’s arrest.
Responding to concerns on social media about accountability, Hundeyin assured the public that the police were taking the matter seriously and emphasized that the dog owner was now in police custody.
“The dog owner has been arrested and is in our custody,” he wrote in response to a user questioning the likelihood of repercussions for the owner.
